Forty illegal immigrants were transported in a truck by a Hungarian driver, who was stopped by the police near Kecskemét on Wednesday, the Bács-Kiskun County Police Headquarters told MTI.

According to the statement, forty foreigners were hiding in the cargo hold of the truck, and when they were found, they could not prove their identity or the legality of their stay in Hungary. The 30-year-old driver from Budapest was suspected of wanting to help border violators get to Western Europe illegally.

Illegal migrants claiming to be Syrian citizens are being interrogated and the driver of the vehicle has been arrested. The staff of the Migration Affairs Department of the Bács-Kiskun County Police Headquarters opened an investigation against him on suspicion of human trafficking.
